Shell hosting

UPDATE: projektnode.net just suddenly went offline without warning. They’ve been down for almost a week…

OLD ARTICLE:
Since supybot requires only python and further only minimal resources and a single background process, I was looking for a cheap shell provider that only offered the basics. So I signed up with NerdyTechs @ $1.25/mo and Projektnode @ $1.50/mo.

Unfortunately, I have to say that NerdyTechs sucks. I signed up on the 1st of June, however, after signing up I found out that their data center was offline (without mention on their website). I was told that they were moving their servers and that everything would be ready within a week, yet 2 weeks later I haven’t even received my login details. I guess you get what you pay for, luckily $1.25 is not a major loss…

Before signing up with projektnode, I visited their support chatroom on their IRC server. The admin was friendly and helpful, and I received my login details within 5 minutes of signing up. I downloaded supybot, configured it, and had a fully operation bot, without any glitches or annoyances whatsoever. The projektnode shell account also includes basic webhosting. Well worth $1.50 / month.
This is projektnode’s uptime: 01:50:11 up 116 days, 22:20, 2 users, load average: 0.13, 0.07, 0.01

If it’s really lightweight you could get away with hosting it on your dreamhost account.

The server I’m on:
16:37:58 up 91 days, 21:52, 2 users, load average: 2.21, 2.47, 2.92

The load is a bit more ;)
