Thanks for the comment. While Win7 has a driver issue with the memory card reader, Ubuntu 9.10 will have an issue with the wireless card. If you have the stock 1505 Dell wifi card, you’re going to find intermittend disconnections and you can forget about connecting to a network encrypted with anything other than WEP unless you go through a lot of hassle to try and install the windows driver via ndiswrapper. So with this laptop, drivers are always an issue, linux or windows alike. As a proponent of Linux I hope your family all the best in switching to it

my sister uses the same laptop. a friend of hers gave her a copy of win 7. she tried it for a 2 weeks and got fed up. she’s an avarage user and finding drivers is not one of her specialties. she asked me for help but i declined because i dont use windows anymore. after a while i gave her a copy of Ubuntu 9.10 and she had no problems besides openoffice format which was simple to change to a .doc one. she dd not have to search for any drivers whatsoever. You wrote a good review and it helps in giving my Mom and Dad reasons to switch to Ubuntu
